Please note that effective April 05, 2010, a valid travel document has to satisfy the following criteria:

1. its validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States or, in the case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States;
2. it shall contain at least two blank pages;
3. it shall have been issued within the previous 10 years.

No Visa is required for Indian and foreign nationals holding a valid residence permit recognised by the Federal Office of Migration (see 'FOM List' on the right side of this page) or an EU or an EFTA country.

Anybody who wants to stay longer than 3 months has to apply for an authorization/ residence permit before leaving for Switzerland. Applicants who do not hold a national passport of their country of residence but are in possession of a refugee document should contact the Embassy to obtain information as to how a visa may be obtained.

Asylum in Switzerland: Seekers of asylum please note that as of 1.8.2003 the list of safe countries has been reviewed by the Federal Government of Switzerland. According to this list, India is considered a safe country. People who feel politically threatened have the possibility to file an asylum application. However, the application will not be considered unless there are concrete indications of persecution in the home country.
